Ger, "inventor" of sandstone
We know little about it, but Ger is recognized as the place where sandstone was invented, or, more precisely, the place where a furnace system was developed to produce it in "industrial" quantities.
As a result, for about five centuries, from the 14th century to the 19th century, the pottery produced in Ger was "exported" throughout western France and beyond.
In the hamlet of Placître, archaeological excavations have been carried out, and have uncovered a whole heritage concerning the pottery trades with, among other things, three large kilns, and buildings for specific purposes, dryers, workshops, etc.
Ger Pottery Museum: understanding and discovering, past and present
In addition to its very rich exhibitions of thousands of objects, sometimes presented in their context, the museum provides a better understanding of the different stages of production, allows visitors to follow technical demonstrations concerning, for example, ceramics, and even to participate in certain projects themselves.
The place, now in the countryside, has recently been renovated, and now even offers "boutique workshops" where artists and potters work and await you.
The museum itself, moreover, goes beyond the exhibition of old works, which also exhibits a collection of contemporary pieces, the result of the talent of renowned creators
