Palluau-Frontenac, the rare frescos of the chapel

Château de Palluau-Frontenac, three good reasons to visit it

The village of Palluau stands on its rocky spur, from where it dominates the valley of the Indre. Almost at the crossroads of the Route des dames de Touraine, the Route de François Ier, and the Route des Plantagenêt (a whole program!), this pretty village will make you discover its 15th century houses.

And then you will go up to the castle...

There, you will discover the first good reason to go there: the view!

Indeed, from up there, you can see the valley of the Indre, so peaceful.

The second reason is the castle itself dating from the 11th and 15th centuries, an imposing silhouette of a royal fortress, with its Philippe Auguste tower and Gothic dwellings. In 2011, very important restoration work was undertaken, with exceptional craftsmen, in order to restore the castle to its 17th century state.

It should be noted that this castle, with its 1000 years of history (and its 2000 m²!), had never been heated, and that the current owners have made the very unusual choice to marry the Middle Ages and a very modern ecological heating system, geothermal energy!

Louis de Frontenac, Count of Palluau, who can be imagined within these walls, participated in the founding of New France, that is, Quebec, and was with Louis XIV, d'Artagnan, or Cyrano de Bergerac !

Another unusual aspect of this place is that, in the park, the owners have faithfully recreated the habitats of the first settlers who arrived in New France, on the one hand, a farm, a fur trade post and, on the other hand, the Amerindian tipis.

Try to visit the castle between June 15 and September 15, during which time this private castle is open to visitors.

And the third reason is the chapel of the Palluau-Frontenac castle, where there is a superb collection of Renaissance murals, an unusual collection showing many biblical scenes very rarely presented.

In short, between strolling through the village, the castle, the park, the chapel, and wandering along the small roads of the surroundings, there is really enough to spend a good day!
