A story of family, bees, and survival...
Béatrice Robrolle-Mary represents the fourth generation of professional beekeepers, and her son the fifth... a family story that will not end soon!
Towards the end of the 1990's, we began to understand that our way of cultivation was leading to an ever-increasing number of bees being killed. And we are also beginning to understand that a hundred or so listed plant species provide about 90% of the world's food resources, and that 70% of them need bees...
In 2002, Béatrice Robrolle-Mary founded the association "Terre d'abeilles", the only NGO specialized in the defense of bees, which has become a force of proposal for the French and European governments, and a referent for the Grenelle de l'environnement.
In 2008, a new work and information tool was opened: "La Maison des abeilles".
"La Maison des abeilles", beekeeping and education
"La Maison des abeilles" is located in Ingrandes, in the natural setting of the Brenne regional park.
The farm produces and sells a variety of honeys, from hives for which the most judicious locations have been chosen. The hives are very well received, moreover, by the local farmers who understand their importance.
And, of course, beyond this production activity, there is another activity, of transmission. Guided tours are organized upon reservation.
An educational tour is offered, with about thirty thematic panels, a rich video space, old and contemporary hives, and an interactive digital hive that allows you to become a bee among bees!
There is also a glass hive that allows you to see the bees at work and to witness the opening of the hive, while being protected from any stings.
You can also learn about good beekeeping practices with the "apiary-school", an essential step if you are thinking of putting a hive in your garden.
Finally, you can understand how honey is extracted, thanks to the "honey house" and its glass walls.
The "Maison des abeilles" also focuses on the youngest by organizing "Safari-bees" afternoons for 6 to 16 year olds. An enriching memory, of course, and perhaps a hatching of vocations!
