In Angers, if you ask where to see the tapestry of the Apocalypse, people will look at you strangely! Everyone knows, and it's a must!
It is a masterpiece unique in the world, commissioned around 1375 by Duke Louis I of Anjou, and it is the most important set of medieval tapestries. It consists of six rooms 4.50 m high, originally covering an area of 850 m².
Of the original 140 m long, 100 have survived to the present day.
It illustrates the Apocalypse of Saint John, but it is also a fabulous document on the social and political history of the 14th century.
In short, it's a must!
