Philippe le Bel, Charles VII, Catherine de Médicis, Charles IX, Louis XIII, all stayed at the Château de Luynes... but not you!
In 2017, the Duke of Luynes, the current owner, decided to close the doors of the castle, which had been visited since 1996.
This is a great pity, because it is a remarkable castle, which, in addition, offers an incredible panoramic view of the Loire, and a chapel with a frame made of overturned boat hull.
Yes, but the administration has gone through this... standards have been set to, among other things, allow access to all public places for people with disabilities, and that is excellent. But in this case, there is a big problem. In terms of bringing such a castle up to standard, the work is extremely expensive. And the Duke can't face it. So... it closes. No solution had been found, and since it could not prohibit access for people with disabilities, it ended up prohibiting it for everyone. Too bad....
The castle is still mentioned in the "Unusual Great West" because, if you pass by there in the future, it may be useful to find out about any changes in the situation!
