The big meeting....
This place is indeed the great meeting place for the sardines of Saint-Gilles Croix de Vie, the lobster of Noirmoutier, the duck of Challans and, of course, eels and frogs!
It is a "bourrine, quite authentic, built in 1903, and which today offers its atmosphere, its décor, and its regional cuisine under the name of La Quich'notte.
What is a bourrine?
La bourrine is a traditional dwelling in the Breton Vendée marsh, with walls built with a mixture of soil, sand, water and straw, and a reed roof. This is a good example of the use of local resources for building construction.
Transforming it into an inn offering a cuisine based, too, on local resources and products, therefore appears to be a healthy logical approach!
