Among the articles devoted to the ecomuseums of the "Great West", all unique and unusual, here are the ecomuseums of the Orne.
Ecomuseums, or the sharing of human memory
Ecomuseums have become a national and international phenomenon. There are about 300 of them in the world, 200 of them in Europe. Their actions consist of research, presentation, conservation and enhancement of properties, activities, crafts, know-how, those roots that form the tangible and intangible heritage of a region and a population.
As a result, each of them is rich in its own unique and unusual particularities.
The « Grand Ouest Insolite », therefore, presents them.
Department by department, you will find the list of ecomuseums, addresses, useful links, and a short descriptive text extracted from their websites, or various documents dedicated to them.
Do you want to discover them all? Type "ecomuseums" in the small search tool at the top of each page, to the right of the « Grand Ouest Insolite » logo

Sap (61) - Écomusée de la pomme au calvados
The "Grand Jardin" site is an old farm of about 3 hectares that has fallen into disuse and was bought by the Commune for the purpose of safeguarding the heritage; located at the foot of the church, it has a collection of dwellings and farm buildings from the 18th to the 19th centuries.
Restored, these buildings have received a particular destination: the master house is a stopover and holiday cottage, the cottage is a media library, the stable a restaurant and the former cider house the Ecomuseum "de la Pomme au Calvados".
The museum presents a whole collection of objects, from the smallest to the largest, intended for the production of cider from grafting to the distillation of the fruity drop called Calvados. A "Bouillerie" has been reconstructed in the same way with its stills and stories from the last century: a mythical place, the bouillerie has become a legend.
