Among the articles devoted to the ecomuseums of the "Great West", all unique and unusual, here is the one presenting the ecomuseums of Finistère.
The ecomuseums, the people, their lives, their land
There are about 300 eco-museums in the world, 200 of which are in Europe. Their work of research, presentation, conservation and enhancement of properties, activities, trades and know-how makes it possible to discover and understand the tangible and intangible heritage of a region or population and to learn from it.
Each one comes from a specific region, each one is rich in its own particularities, unique and unusual.
The « Grand Ouest Insolite », therefore, presents them to you.
Department by department, you will find there the list of ecomuseums, addresses, useful links, videos, and a small description extracted from their websites, or documents dedicated to them.
If you want to discover them all, type "eco-museums" in the small search tool at the top of each page, to the right of the « Grand Ouest Insolite » logo
Plouigneau (29) : Écomusée Le Village Breton
By immersing yourself in the different spaces and settings installed in the old farm, you will witness the technical evolutions and upheavals in the lives of workers and families in Trégor during the last century.
The Ecomuseum allows you to discover how much technology has evolved and changed the lives of families and workers, and how great the ingenuity and imagination of our ancestors were.
It is simply our history of yesterday and today that you are being asked to understand, perhaps to find keys for tomorrow. And to keep track of our ancestors!
From fields to shops, from school to home, objects are gathered, places recreated, to make you live or relive the atmosphere of yesteryear. 100 years of rural life on 8000 m2.
To make you want to see for yourself, here are three approaches in video. A presentation made by Le Moulin à Images, with this video from 2016, and with this other video, from 2018. Here is also a video report from France 3 Iroise, made in 2015... things have not changed much since then!

Daoulas (29) : Écomusée de la Meunerie
Founded in the 12th century, the Moulin du Pont has evolved over the years to become a flour mill from 1936 to 1970, when its production ceased. Its complete rehabilitation has made it possible to highlight the machines, most of which have been preserved. Thus, since 2005, the Moulin du Pont has become a real technical museum of the mill whose playful discovery is made with the family... Since spring 2009, a new exhibition has completed the visit of the mill's facilities, introducing you to the history of the mills and millers of Daoulas!
For the general public, the museum is only open in July and August.

Commana, Saint-Rivoal (29) ; Écomusée des Monts d'Arrée : les moulins de Kerouat à Commana, et la maison Cornec à Saint-Rivoal
"There is only a territory project" according to André Desvallée, an essential relationship must involve the inhabitants of a territory in projects that contribute to its cultural, economic or social development. The inhabitants are therefore actors in our programming.
In the oven, in the mill, in the field, in the garden, and even by the fire, the eco-museum invites you to share your knowledge and know-how through the many activities, highlights and workshops. The ecomuseum is a living place of discovery and learning.

Ile d'Ouessant (29) : Ecomusée du Niou
The Ecomusée d'Ouessant, labelled "Musée de France", invites you to discover the organisation of life on the island of Ouessant until the middle of the 20th century. Furniture, everyday objects, tools, costumes, etc. constitute the collection gathered with the population and presented in both houses:
- A traditional dwelling on the island preserved, with its brightly coloured interior decorated like a sanctuary, the haystack decorated with straw braids and the enclosed plots of dry stone walls where the sheep of Ouessant (a small local breed) graze
- The house-museum that tells the story of the daily life of the island on this isolated piece of land on the continent where, while the men sailed the long distances, the women were alone in carrying out agricultural work and ensuring the family's survival.
Well, go ahead, breathe in the sea air, take a look at the eco-museum, and take a walk around with this video of the Armorique Regional Nature Park!
