The white of the cabbage, the blue of the Republicans, and in the middle, a lot of red!
The Battle of Quiberon
Imagine... it is July 1795... the wheat is ripe, spiked with red poppies... the Chouannes troops are there, supported by emigrant royalist troops.
Across the street, General Hoche's Republican armies.
Battle....
And today, precisely on the line of defense chosen by the Republicans during the Battle of Quiberon, we find the museum of the chouannerie!
From one battle to another....
The museum of the chouannerie is at the entrance of the peninsula of Quiberon, 13 kilometers from Quiberon, and 4 kilometers from Carnac, at the exit of the commune of Plouharnel.
And where was it installed? In a blockhouse! Yes, in an infirmary blockhouse built by the Germans during another war, in 1941...
The museum of chouannerie....
This museum is the only museum in France entirely dedicated to chouannerie, with, of course, the Vendée and the Western Wars.
All the events that took place during these wars, from 1793 to 1832, are recounted. We discover more than 400 rare pieces, costumes, period objects, weapons and documents, and, among them, letters that make people shudder, letters that advocate the complete extermination of chouans, men, women and children, following the resolutions passed in Paris, at the assembly, during scenes that have gone down in history...
All this, which allows a better understanding of what happened at the time, leaves the visitor with a feeling of deep emotion...
