The ecomuseums
Ecomuseums were experimented with in 1968 in National Parks, before becoming a national and international phenomenon. There are about 300 of them in the world, 200 of them in Europe. They carry out research, presentation, conservation and enhancement actions of properties, activities, trades and know-how, which form the tangible and intangible heritage of a region or a population.
As a result, each of them is rich in its own unique and unusual particularities. The « Grand Ouest Insolite », therefore, presents them.
Department by department, you will find the list of ecomuseums, addresses, useful links, and a small description taken from their websites, or documents dedicated to them.
If you want to discover them all, type "eco-museums" in the small search tool at the top of each page, to the right of the « Grand Ouest Insolite » logo

Melrand (56): Village of the year Mil
We are in the Blavet Valley (Morbihan interior), in the commune of Merland, on a hill at the foot of which flows a small river that winds its way to La Sarre.
Discovered in 1902 by an archaeologist, this archaeological site has been exceptionally well preserved.
The daily life of the people who have lived here is now concretely mentioned on this site, which has been open to the public and developed since 1985. By going through it, everyone can better understand what the peasants of the Middle Ages cultivated and in what type of house they lived.
The tour will then allow you to discover the entire archaeological site on 1.5 hectares, the garden where about a hundred plants certified in the Middle Ages are presented and the reconstructions of the buildings. Attic on stilts, cottage, oven... each element of the building of the time is evoked life size thanks to constructions that will give all the elements of the universe in which our ancestors lived. The animals present allow a lively approach to daily breeding.
