Normandy: a ghost article for a ghost village

Here's a ghost article about a village in Normandy, a ghost village... yes, yes !

Pirou Ghost Village?

On the commune of the small village of Pirou, a vast real estate project planned the construction of 75 houses, and everything that goes with it, hotel, restaurant, sports facilities ... all, obviously, not far from the sea. In short, nice...

And the houses are starting to come out of the ground. But, while about thirty of them were being built, there were problems with financing, problems with building permits, and everything stopped, in 1992. Obviously, a legal and financial imbroglio ensued, which, in 2016, was still not settled.

Little by little, this ghost village became the playground for all sorts of artists and graphic artists, who painted the walls of these more or less ruined houses with all sorts of brightly coloured decorations!

You can admire some of them with the photos selected to accompany this article.

A ghost article?

Yes, I announced a ghost article, but why ghost? I confess... Simply because it's an article about something that no longer exists, sorry!

Indeed, in 2016, the municipality bought the ruins, and started to demolish everything, for another project...

Pirou, no ghost at all!

Indeed, now, Pirou is a pretty village in Normandy, which offers visitors its castle, the oldest medieval castle in Normandy, its long beach, an airy and peaceful holiday ...

and then there's whelk!

And yes, Pirou is the capital of the whelk! It may be very unusual, but it's also very serious: the bug has just obtained its Protected Geographical Indication, awarded by the European Commission!

And, as luck would have it, this whelk provides work for about 150 people in the town. There is even a company, the Bulotier, which, with its boats and its 30 employees, processes some 5000 tons of whelk per year.

And let's not forget the festival, the bulb festival, of course, which takes place every year towards the end of April, and which attracts up to 25,000 visitors over several days. For a ghost village, it's still very lively!
