Works of art in miniature textiles...
These are works of art that have come from all over the world to compete in the ninth edition of the Angers Museum of Fine Arts' miniature textile competition. Particularly unusual works of art, which it is exciting to observe... very closely!
The competition
Since 1993, Angers has hosted the International Triennial of Mini-textiles. Each year, artists compete on the basis of a theme, which can take any form. The one of 2021, for example, indicated "measure/unmeasure". Without more! And let the artistic imagination deal with it!
To simplify things, the work must not exceed 12 cm in width, height, or depth.
At each competition, works arrive from all over the world. There were 450 entries in this competition, and sixty-two were selected.
To see the works
The competition is over, and if you just want to admire the creations, they are exposed to the public, at the Jean Lurçat Museum until January 9, 2022, which leaves you some time! You can also see the acquisitions from the previous triennial "Free as Art! "
That said, if you still missed those dates, you can always come to the next appointment... three years later!
The Jean Lurçat Museum, in addition to hosting this temporary exhibition, is worth a visit in itself.
This former hospital is part of the great hospital complexes created in the 12th century, and the beauty of the place, very specific of the Plantagenet style, is impressive.
Among other works magnified by the place and the light, you will admire the famous "Song of the World" hanging, by Jean Lurçat, echoing the "Apocalypse" hanging of the castle of Angers.
To see both in the same day is a wonder!
