The Museum of Art and History of Baugé in Anjou, born from a common will.
It was in 1905 that the town hall of Baugé, now called Baugé en Anjou, had two good ideas. The first, the creation of a museum. Small problem, to create a museum, one must have things to exhibit, and if possible interesting things.
Hence the second good idea: to appeal to the donations of the inhabitants, to ask them to look for old or unusual objects, reflections of their own heritage, their know-how, their lives... and it was an excellent idea, since, now, no less than 2515 objects are inventoried in their Museum of Art and History.
Art and History Museum of Baugé in Anjou, a range of themes!
The themes reflect the eclecticism of the gifts: scientific heritage, everyday life, ceramics, archaeology, natural history, local history, sculpture, fine arts.
The whole gives an impression of great diversity, of great richness, and, step by step, from discovery to discovery, never ceases to surprise.
Three unusual museums...
The Museum of Art and History of Baugé in Anjou is part of a trio of unusual museums, along with the Jules Desbois Museum and the Joseph Denais Museum. Behind these three museums is the team of the Direction Associée des Musées Municipaux, encouraged by elected officials from the three communes, and by the department of Maine-et-Loire.
Being as abundant, interesting, and unusual as each other, it is therefore very logical to suggest visiting them... all three of them!
