Wool sneakers? Bééééééé, yes!

Sneakers made of recycled wool, with insoles made of recycled cork, and laces made of recycled plastic bottles... unusual, no?

And the manufacturers are neither in China nor India, but in France, each with its own particular know-how, all assembled in Maine et Loire... Unusual, no?

An unusual dream....

Mathilde and Simon, working in the shoe industry in the Paris region, have decided to settle in Auvergne to get closer to nature, and to ensure that their work is in line with their values.

So far, nothing unusual... it's an approach that's being followed more and more frequently.

Where it gets a little more unusual, of course, is that he had the dream of creating a line of comfortable shoes using recycled materials on the one hand, and responsible manufacturing in France on the other.

Recycled wool....

The basketball will therefore be made of recycled wool!

This wool comes from used sweaters (or with holes in the elbow!) found in collection points.

They are sorted by colour, which will then avoid the use of new dyes, with all the ecological consequences that follow.

They are then unravelled, to allow the weaving of new yarns (note that these new yarns have very interesting physical characteristics, coming from a wool that has already undergone many washings, the sun, the bad weather....

And it is of course with these new yarns that the material for future sneakers will be woven!

An adventure, and a commitment

So Mathilde and Simon had an idea... and that's about it!

They have therefore travelled all over France in search of partners with the specific know-how they are looking for, and with the same mindset as them.

They also launched a participatory fundraising campaign on Ulule. As a result, thanks to 1499 contributors, the objective was achieved, and the number of pre-orders registered was sufficient to show the viability of the idea, and to start production. Ubac was born!

The commitment, at the level of the product itself, is to offer an ecologically responsible basketball, very comfortable, cool in summer and warm in winter, resistant...

But the commitment does not end there. Contributing not to destroy the environment is good, but contributing to improving it is even better... also, for each pair purchased, it is a tree that is planted in Peru with Reforest'Action.

And this action even goes so far as to modify the sacrosanct principle of sales: at that time, the number of trees planted is multiplied by 10!

To know more about it....

By the characteristics of its products, Ubac presents itself as an unusual company. Its recycled wool sneakers combine comfort and strength, youth and recovery, responsible production and ecology.

And it is to be hoped that this characteristic of an unusual company does not last, others, more and more, starting to follow this path.

To learn more about their history, their commitment, and the varied and colourful range of Ubac products, all you have to do is take a look at their website!
