The Jules Desbois Museum in Parçay-les-Pins
Born in 1851, Jules Desbois was the only son of the village innkeepers. He showed a gift for drawing which led him as an apprentice to various workshops, then to the School of Fine Arts in Angers, and finally to the Fine Arts in Paris.
The museum devoted to him presents about a hundred works that are mainly characterized by the search for the translation of movement and, moreover, by realism.
As far as movement is concerned, he will work a lot with Alda Moreno, a dancer at the Opéra-comique de Paris, whose arabesques and pirouettes will serve as models for him.
Rodin and Camille Claudel
He got closer to Rodin, who became his friend, and to Camille Claudel, who became his friend... but much more! He will have a tumultuous and passionate relationship with her.
Three unusual museums
The Jules Desbois Museum is part of a trio of unusual museums, with the Joseph Denais Museum, in Beaufort en Vallée. and the Museum of Art and History, in Baugé in Anjou. All three work with the team of the Direction Associée des Musées Municipaux (DAMM), encouraged by elected representatives of the three communes and supported by the department of Maine-et-Loire and the DRAC.
And all three are really worth the detour!
