Three days in the last century!
Yes, I know, in the Saumurois, everyone knows " Anjou Vélo Vintage ", a fun event that has seen the number of its participants increase from 300 in 2011 to 9900 in 2019 (it being understood that the participants are only those who are on the bikes! The happy crowd that strolls around, it, we do not count it anymore!).
But as "le Grand Ouest insolite" is read far beyond the Saumur region, and as it is a great festival which the least we can say is particularly unusual, so I talk about it!
It's the first European retro bike touring event! So here it is... it's very unusual, it's in the last century, it's three days of summer, it's every year, it's swing, and it's in Saumur...
The routes...
For the participants, the principle is simple: you leave from Saumur, and you make the country and gustatory circuit that you have chosen, and that brings you back to Saumur... under the applause!
The circuits have nice names: Anatole Laguibole, Abby Cyclette, Eddy Namo, etc. They have lengths adapted to what you suppose your possibilities are: 30 km, 35 km, 40 km, 65 km... it's up to you!
But don't think that this is a hard race... not at all! The courses have the common characteristic of offering you numerous refreshment points and local discoveries.
It's a nice way to discover the Saumur area, in an authentic and festive way!
But be careful... the bicycles must also be vintage: the bicycle must be from before 1987, without gear change fixed to the handlebars, and without automatic footrest!
The village
This is a temporary village located in the historical center of Saumur, from where you can admire the splendid facade of the town hall which, in 2021, has regained all its beauty thanks to a very important restoration operation carried out by the best craftsmen.
This ephemeral village offers you to discover the latest trends... inherited from the past! In a truly joyful and offbeat atmosphere, you will find vintage fashion and decoration, old recipes, furniture, and also, of course, the gastronomic products and wines of the Loire Valley. There is also a flea market part where you will find objects and improbable pieces of the cycling of yesteryear!
