Unique in France
As its name indicates, this museum is not only that of the shirt industry, which would be unusual in itself, but also that of men's elegance, which constitutes a unique collection in France which, beyond the shirt, also presents clothes and accessories, ties, hats, and jewelry... a collection of 12,000 objects!
The blouses
In the nineteenth century, about 3,000 blouse-makers worked in Argenton sur Creuse, and more particularly in the workshop that now houses the museum.
You will see their life, their work, and the stages of manufacturing a shirt, pattern making, cutting, assembly, folding...
You will also see the evolution of the shirt over time, from the Middle Ages, to the Christian Dior, Pierre Cardin, or Pierre Clarence shirts that were made in these workshops! And, for the record, you will also see a shirt that belonged to Fernandel, and others to Frank Sinatra, Richard Burton, Johnny Hallyday, or the one worn by Charlie Chaplin at an Oscar ceremony in 1972!
A textile garden
The museum also includes a garden, obviously a textile garden! That is to say that it is in the shape of a shirt pattern, and that the plants found there are those used to dye clothes, or to maintain the linen, among others!
