The village of Apremont-sur-Allier
A small and charming medieval village, a magical floral park, and, for the unusual side, extraordinary horse-drawn carriages... really, Apremont-sur-Allier deserves a detour, and a stay!
It nestles not far from the Loire and the Allier, and, today, it is possible to enjoy the calm of its pretty streets and its peaceful banks. However, in the Middle Ages, the village experienced a period of intense activity, when quarrymen worked the stones that were then shipped to the construction site of the cathedral of Orleans, among others...
This village underwent a major "renovation" between the two world wars, under the impetus of Eugène Schneider, the forge master of Le Creusot. Everything that was not considered in harmony with the site was razed, and many houses were rebuilt, respecting the medieval style of Berry.
This is one of the reasons why Apremont-sur-Allier is rightly proud of being named one of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France".
The floral park
This romantic poetic walk, out of time, is very difficult to describe. Classified as a "remarkable garden", it will take you from singing waterfalls to Turkish pavilions, from belvederes to Chinese bridges, from small houses perfectly integrated among rare trees to arches covered with wisteria... You must go to this unmissable place in your region!
If you have the choice, try to go between mid-April and mid-May to stroll under the wisteria arches, and from mid-May to mid-June, depending on the season, to admire the yellow, purple, blue and violet irises...
The stables, and the carriage museum
At the beginning, there was a glass factory which blew bottles!
A glass factory which had a rather ephemeral existence, since, created in 1752, it stopped its activities because of the French Revolution. At the beginning of the 19th century, a marquis replaced it with stables of 12 stalls, each bearing the name of a horse.
It is in these stables that you can now admire a unique collection of nine 19th century carriages, in remarkable condition, among which the one that had the mission of transporting the pay of the workers of Creusot. Superb!
To rest in Apremont-sur-Allier ?
It would be a pity to devote only a short tour to these places! So, prolong your hours of peaceful discoveries by booking a beautiful medieval house in the heart of the village, whose address I give you at the bottom of the article...
