The peninsula has exported French strawberry production to ¼ on its own, and the colours and embroideries of its costumes are unique. A museum presents you both!
Amédée-François Frezier and the Chilean strawberry
In the commune of Plougastel-Daoulas, because of a mico-climate, it seems today, very exceptional, we cultivate wild strawberries... until the day Amédée-François Frezier, in 1714, introduced a few feet of white strawberries from Chile, which, little by little, would lead to the conversion of the region ! The museum traces this incredible evolution.
Unique costumes
This very particular costume, worn only in the Plougastel peninsula, remains an enigma for ethnologists. Why here, and only here, this colorful clothing? In the museum, "more than 60 models allow you to discover one of the most colourful fashions in Brittany and its evolution from 1820 to 1960" (museum site).
And also....
The museum also presents the traditional habitat of Plougastel, which adopts an identical layout of furniture in each home, and of which you will see a reconstruction, furniture and objects related to linen, another wealth of the peninsula, and an approach to maritime and religious heritage.
