Time travel in the vegetable garden!
This garden, Charles Trenet would certainly have called it "an extraordinary garden"... indeed, in just a few steps, we will travel gently from prehistoric times of the harvest to our current vegetable crops... Unusual, isn't it?
Les Jardins du Puygirault : the evolution in 14 spaces
It is indeed a journey through time that retraces the relationship between man and plants through 14 dedicated spaces. You will visit "the age of the harvest", "the first ploughing", "the ancient garden", "the medicinal garden", "the medieval garden", "the garden of contentment", among others and without forgetting "the journey of plants", "the flower garden", "the inner garden", or "the vegetable garden of a curious person"!
And your steps will lead you to meet more than 1000 different species, on 2 hectares!
What about the locked garden?
In passing, you will also see a very unusual type of garden, which is not unique to the Jardins du Puygirault, but which you will encounter quite rarely. So this is an opportunity to observe the garden in a lock...
In fact, it is a cultivation technique that allows one to make one's own soil, and to immediately spread its benefits to the surrounding area. Imagine a circular wall with a small door in it, which opens onto a very small alley, which in turn leads to another central circular space, a sort of small well of loose stones. In between, you put soil and plant. In the small central circle, you put plant waste for compost. And, by watering, all the nutrients will spread all around! And, seen from above, you actually have the design of a lock! One of the photos that come with the articles show you them.
By the way, you will probably see a small stone pipe in which the fresh water runs... it dates from the 12th century!
A free audioguide
It is therefore a peaceful space, both rich and very beautiful. And what's more, there is a lot to discover and learn, and you can be helped, if you wish, by a free audioguide from a mobile phone, which is offered to visitors.
An interesting exhibition just a few steps away...
Then, if you want to go underground, you can discover, just a few steps away, the very faithful reproduction, in cut tufa stone, of numerous buildings in Touraine presented in a troglodyte maze, and about which, obviously, "le Grand Ouest insolite" has written an article for you. It is about Pierre et Lumière
