Floating gardens, alliance of a city and a craftsman!

A city

I can't resist the pleasure of quoting this pretty introductory phrase from the city's official website: "Overworked city dwellers, friends of nature, nostalgic, curious about the past, painters and poets find in the Baugeois the art of living in the serenity, harmony and simplicity of yesteryear". Evocative and seductive...

And indeed... you will stroll peacefully, with pleasure, along its streets. The city boasts 140 monuments listed in the general inventory of cultural heritage, including 11 historical monuments!

The walk is made easier for you by the creation of two itineraries, two "discovery routes" with panels and desks.
One will take you to the old quarters, with its many mansions, among others...
The other one makes you discover the Vieil-Baugé, whose picturesque alleys take you from the Middle Ages to the 19th century!

And then, of course, there's a river... we'll talk about it...

A craftsman

This is Ludovic Amy, manager and creator of the company Urbanoé, who seeks to combine his craft know-how and the integration of plants in the city. A glance at what the company produces, and you can immediately see the priority use of wood, for example. And with good reason... it is described as an urban cabinet making company!

It just so happens that he had the idea of proposing to one of his private clients, who was crossing a river, the installation of floating gardens. These were prototypes, the first realisation based on this very unusual concept. And the fauna and flora quickly developed in this habitat that was offered to them, under completely natural conditions.

In Baugé, on the river, along the Avenue Jeanne d'Arc, this is the second installation of floating gardens.

They are alveolar in shape, a shape that is found in nature, and which offers many possibilities of arrangement.

Most of the plants are endemic plants, i.e. plants that are naturally found along the shores and banks of the region: forget-me-not, sedge, marsh loosestrife, etc. The fact that the plants chosen are native provides wildlife with an appropriate refuge.

Here it is... an original, unusual idea, and, once realised, with the simplicity of the obvious, an idea which has the double advantage of bringing a touch of peaceful beauty to the urban environment, and of contributing to the development of the local fauna and flora...
