An incredible bird museum
The small town of La Chaize-le-Vicomte offers you an unusual little treasure: the Charles Payraudeau Ornithological Museum.
Come on, let's start with a glue... do you know theGoéland d'Audouin, or the Crested Cormorant of Desmarest? No ? Well, the cormorant's posh... that's a clue! Still not? Well, then, these are two species of birds discovered by Charles Payraudeau when he was drawing up the first inventory of the island of Corsica, in 1824 and 1825. This passionate naturalist, who died in 1865, bequeathed the totality of his collections to the town of La Chaize-le-Vicomte.
The collections...
In this unusual museum, located on the first floor of the town hall, you can admire 2000 species, among which 310 are Western European, most of them can be observed in the Vendée. They are grouped according to their natural biotopes, seabirds, nocturnal birds of prey, woodland passerines and hedgerows?
You also admire the exotic birds, particularly colourful.
You will discover this surprising and interesting set with an audio guide, or with an itinerary sheet detailing the collection. Allow approximately one hour for the visit.
