The Contemporary Ceramic Center La Borne
In the hamlet of La Borne, in the communes of Henrichemont and Morogues, there has been pottery activity since the 13th century! In the nineteenth century, more than twenty workshops were working, operating large kilns together.
Later, this activity disappeared little by little as well as the potting villages. But in La Borne, ceramic artists come to learn from the elders, and the activity, on the contrary, develops since there are now about a hundred ceramists in the hamlet and the surrounding area, the whole having reached an international dimension.
The Association Céramique La Borne now has more than sixty members. As early as 1971, it used the old village girls' school to present its work. In 2010, a new space was opened, welcoming visitors in the school building, which has been extensively remodeled and extended with a large glass gallery of more than 660 m².
The La Borne Contemporary Ceramic Center: production
The center supports ceramists and artists by providing them with optimal conditions of reception, with, among other things, the "La Borne Residencies" which allow the arrival of artists from all horizons, collaboration and co-production.
Distribution
Each year, more than a dozen exhibitions are offered to the public, whether collective, individual or thematic. Annual events are also organized, such as the European Crafts Days, the European Heritage Days or "Grands Feux", days of demonstrations, practical workshops, guided tours...
Mediation
It is also a place of transmission and passage. It is about allowing the encounter with the material, the know-how, and the contemporary practices of ceramics. In this spirit, training courses are also proposed for professionals, semi-professionals or amateurs.
An unusual approach because it is complete
As you will have understood, the Centre Céramique Contemporaine La Borne does not only propose to stroll in front of the creations in a classical way, but also to appropriate their spirit...
