Unusual festival... and unique!

The Continuous Sound Festival

At the foot of the home page of the festival's website is a phrase attributed to popular wisdom: "It is inelegant to walk looking at your feet, but recommended to go forward thinking about your roots. This sentence sums up the history, the values, and the programs of the "Continuous Sound" festival...

Why this name, "Le Son Continu"?

First, because it is about traditional instruments such as hurdy-gurdies and bagpipes, which produce... a continuous sound!
Then, because it was necessary to ensure the continuity of the sound between the first "International meetings of violin makers and master pipers" created in 1976, but disappeared in 2014, and the creation of the association "le Son Continu", with four months to prepare the festival of 2014! Successful bet, since there were 6097 festival-goers that year, for 16375 in 2019.

Values, and a program...

The festival has become a great cultural event for the region, and a pole of gathering and international exchange. It is a participatory and convivial event, whose program reflects the diversity of traditional music, and perpetuates the spirit of sharing from the popular origins of this oral culture.

Three main poles

The festival is articulated around three main poles: the violin making, the music and the dance.
Violin making is alive and well in the 150 stands of the violin makers from all over the world: sales, repairs, exchanges between musicians, sharing of know-how. From note to note, this fair has finally gained international recognition, and has become the most important in Europe.
Music is expressed, among other things, with the participative stages, the "musical siestas" (and yes!) and the evening concerts of the Big Stage, until midnight, followed by the "new movement" program, until 4 am...!
As for the dance, it expresses itself all day long, and spreads out joyfully during the evening balls, at the Pommeraye, from midnight to 4 am.

The dates...

Like many festivals, it had to be cancelled for health reasons in 2021, but in 2022, it will resound again from July 14 to 17!

Culture populaire traditionnelle
