A village of pottery artists

La Borne... since the 15th century!

The place is ideal, in the middle of the forest, and with a sandstone vein! Also, a strong activity of creation of potteries developed from the 15th century.
In the golden age, in the 19th century, there were about 80 craftsmen for 700 inhabitants!
And then, new materials, new needs, new trends, the activity declined like everywhere else. Except that, in this village, from the middle of the 20th century, craftsmen potters artists came back, revived the village, created the Ceramic Association La Borne, in 1771, invited hundreds of artists to exhibit, and opened in 2010 the Contemporary Ceramic Center La Borne ...

Today...

Today, first of all, it is very pleasant to stroll through this small village of about 200 inhabitants. It is a pleasure and a permanent discovery to go from workshop to workshop, along the streets. And it is a marvelous pleasure to visit the exhibitions, with an international influence, which are organized at the Contemporary Ceramic Center.
