According to the official village website, "Trôo is one of the most beautiful and unusual villages in France"!
A little over the top? A little too much publicity? Well, not at all!
First of all, it's true that it's very pretty, but, well, I'm going to be told that it's a subjective judgment. Let's say so!
But as for the unusual side... first of all, its construction on the hillside is quite particular: terraces, caves, paths, many stairs... then it is a village that has no centre, and that does not really have streets either! You have to discover it at random!
Its name, which appeared in the 11th century, would mean "hole", which would be logical with all the caves found there, and the spelling would be that practiced by the English, who occupied it during the Plantagenets... remember?
On its hill, the village overlooks the Loir, and its valley so green and peaceful, on which you will have a superb view when you go up to the orientation table, after having discovered these cute little houses, cave dwellings carved into the hillside.
Ah, I forgot... don't miss the "talking well":
