The Breton tulips of the Torch, in Plomeur

The Breton tulips of the Torch, in Plomeur

What is a bulb farmer?

A bulb grower is someone who produces bulbs!

And, as far as flowers are concerned, when we talk about bulbs, we immediately think of tulips, hyacinths, or irises, for example.

And to obtain beautiful, large bulbs, you have to make the plant bloom.

As a result, bulb growers have beautiful flower fields!

Holland in the Bigouden country?

These sumptuously multicoloured fields can be seen, of course, in the land of the tulip, Holland. But, of course, no one would have the idea to go and get some in the middle of Bigouden country, heading towards La Torche, a mecca for surfing and all the water sports, with its rocks, its beach, and the sea rolls that crash there... nobody?

Yes, it is! The Kaandorp family, originally from Holland (we would have guessed it!) who knew how to spot that there were all the favourable conditions there, including, among others, a sandy ground, rather mild winters, not too hot summers...

Since 1960, this family has been producing bulbs in the Netherlands. And it was therefore all her experience that she brought to the Bigouden country in 1980.

Today, with the flower in their lips, they have become one of the most important bulb growers (see above!) in France, with a hundred hectares of farmland!

Unusual walk among the tulips, in Finistère!

Every spring, therefore, it is a walk in the middle of an explosion of colours that can be done at this farm.

Just before arriving at the mythical "spot" of skiing, you will find yourself in the middle of fields of tulips, or hyacinths, or irises, depending on the time of your walk. Access to the farm is free, on the sole condition that you respect the area and do not enter the fields, of course.

In season, you can also take a "little train" that leaves from the farm itself.

Further away ?

When you have taken full of it (and full of nostrils, because it smells very good!), go a little further and, five minutes later, you the rocks, the beach, the spray, the waves... and a terrible choice to make: either you take a pancake on the terrace, quiet, or you take your surfboard... it is to be seen!
