Festival of the unusual

In Finistère, there is... the festival of the unusual! And there's also... periwinkles spitting, bed running, Korn Bout World Championships, menhirs throwing, langoustine shelling, artichoke throwing, shallots pulling, among others!

The festival of the unusual, and the bed race...

Let's start with Mahalon, in Finistère (we won't repeat it every time, but all the cities mentioned in this article are in Finistère, where, it seems, there is a slight wind of madness!)

In this small town, every July 14 for 30 years, the festival of the unusual, obviously known worldwide, takes place!

Various events are fiercely contested, such as the throwing of eggs, flip-flops, pancakes, berets, with, as a much awaited highlight, the famous bed race around the church, with thrills and off-roads!

Obelix and throwing it from menhirs.

Obelix was not present in Guerlesquin on August 8, 2019, since the world records for throwing menhirs did not fall, either in the men's category, or in the women's category, or in the children's category, despite the distribution of magic potion, and despite the tasting, obviously, of wild boars on the spit, just to gain strength! ("Ha tañ dezhi ha bec'h d'ar boutoù koat ! "... Great banquet of wild boars, and that the hooves heat up!)

Maybe the records, more than 6 meters for men with a menhir of twenty-five kilos, will fall next year, during the 18th edition of these celebrations!

Plouarzel, Korn Bout World Championship!

Plouarzel, every year, organizes the crab festival. It was the 31st edition in 2019! And we celebrate it by the hundreds of kilos in an outdoor restaurant organized on the town hall square.

And it is during this celebration that an extremely serious world championship takes place, the Korn Bout world championship...

What is it?

Well, that's what used to be the phone before the phone!

How can husbands, sons, cousins, and others whose work was scattered in the fields, far from the farm, be brought in for soup? Just use a Korn Bout, of course!

It can take different forms, the oldest of which is probably a hollowed out cabbage core. But it can also be made up of a hollowed horn, a large shell, or anything else that can produce a deep, hoarse, loud sound and carry away.

So... cover your ears, and welcome to the championship!

Sibiril, and the world championship of periwinkle spitting....

In the Breton municipality of Sibiril (at the port of Moguériec, near Roscoff), there is a periwinkles throwing track, 20 metres long, 3 metres wide.

Each participant in the annual championship is entitled to three tries. It is a question of putting the winkle in his mouth, according to a very precise layout, then spitting it out as far as possible!

The record exceeds 10 meters. Notice to athletes, for next year!

Guilvinec, and the world champion langoustine!

The world champion Norway lobster is the hundredth lobster shelled at the world championship of lobster shelling, held in Guilvinec.

And this world champion title, you really have to go looking for it, with composure and digital agility: four minutes and 33 seconds to peek at 100 langoustines!

Please note that each participant can leave with his or her scampi!

Plounévez-Lochrist, capital of shallot, and the championship of the same name!

There are about 70 farms in Plounévez-Lochrist that produce shallot and contribute to its status as the capital of this popular bulb.

So, of course, that's where the world championship for the uprooting of shallots was supposed to be held. And, here again, it is necessary to train seriously to make the champion's record fall, that is, over 160 meters, to take 3000 shots in 26 minutes!

Morlaix, at the Henvic stadium, world championship of artichoke throwing!

So, on the one hand, there is the launcher, whose role is to launch as many artichokes as possible in a minimum of time. On the other side, there is the receiver, with a hood on his back, whose role is to receive as many artichokes as possible.

It takes place in Morlaix, at the stadium, and it gives a record of 69 artichokes in one minute! The story doesn't say how long it takes to make the vinaigrette!

Unnecessary precision....

Should we mention that all these championships, all these celebrations, all these celebrations, which take place among the hard-working Gauls who resist the invading uniformist MacDominator foot by foot, give rise to joyful banquets with a variety of suckling pigs, wild boars and seafood products, accompanied by appropriate drinks?
