Ecomuseum of old trades

A unique collection in Brittany

It's a magical place!

To describe it, let's start with the easiest way possible, listing (if possible!) what you can find there, on its 2000 m2 of exhibition space... There are more than 100 000 tools, antique objects, furniture, toys, costumes, etc....

Well...

Now, even more extraordinary: we discover all these objects in their period environment, the craftsmen's workshops, the garage of the 50s, the 1900 classroom... Time travel!

The same goes for everyday life, which is shared in period Breton interiors, warm and authentic!

The collections...

You will thus pass from the hatter's shop, to the grocery store, the toy store, the weaver... You will be taken by the charm of the interiors, by the nostalgia of the old shops, by the smile of the worlds of childhood...

A trip with an old-fashioned charm, a poetic wonder, that you can experience as you wish, or a guided and commented tour!

"The jobs found" (« Les métiers retrouvés »)

During your visit, you will be able to acquire the essential book, the bible of old trades, made with love, passion, talent (... and patience!) by Alain Guillard.

His book is presented as follows: "Grinders, lemonade makers, spinners and other ragpickers: all names that have disappeared from our daily lives and now only refer to old activities. This book allows us to discover a bygone era, that of jobs that have been forgotten or become rare, because even if some still exist, all have really evolved.

As the pages go by, it "offers us a lesson about the past, when competition and profitability were not yet the key words. At a time when proximity and human exchange characterized the world of work, craftsmen and other trades were the answer to the daily needs of the inhabitants of the village for the well-being of everyone.

And how many looms are thus evoked, described by the word and the image... the spinner, the weaver, the lace-maker, the embroidererer, the laundress, the ironer, the hourglass maker, the tanner-corroder, the shoemaker-botter, barber-hairdresser, basket maker, basket maker, strip maker and hingler, pig killer, cart, saddler, straw maker, grinder and grinder, among others!

The Morbihan ecomuseums

In addition to the Old Trades Museum, the Morbihan presents three other museums, all unusual, all authentic, all unique! You can get a glimpse of it in this article from the « Grand Ouest Insolite »!
