Normandy: a network of 60 museums

Discover the collections of 60 museums in Normandy, it's just a click away!

Is that unusual?

Yes, unfortunately yes... It seems that this initiative is quite unusual, but it is so interesting that we can only regret that it is! So, what is it about?

The Heritage Factory in Normandy

The Heritage Factory in Normandy is a public cultural cooperation establishment created on 1 January 2015.

This establishment is organized around three poles: a conservation, restoration, and scientific imaging pole, an Ethnopôle with a mission of knowledge enhancement and transmission of ethnological and intangible heritage, and, finally, a mission of coordination, sharing and support with the animation of the Network of Museums of Normandy.

The Network of Museums of Normandy

Created in 2003, the museum network brings together more than a hundred museums in Normandy which, by joining, wish to get to know each other better, cooperate and share certain tools and resources.

Since 2007, member museums that so wish have been able to inventory everything concerning their collections in a shared database.

The collections of the Normandy museum network

It is this ensemble that constitutes, via an Internet portal, "The collections of the network of Normandy museums", i.e. approximately 70,000 objects presented and described by 60 museums!

Of course, these objects are organized into thematic collections, which can be browsed according to their interests: textile photography, agriculture, crafts and industry, ceramics, ivory, etc., etc..

Visitors can also search by keyword throughout the database or discover the collections of a specific museum in the network to which they can directly access.

Finally, for educational purposes, the portal also offers a number of games.

In short, an initiative of exciting richness!

Only one criticism: it's so exciting that, when you have the misfortune to start walking around... well, you're not about to get out!
