Linen
Flax has been cultivated for thousands of years. As far as possible, the temperature should not exceed 25° throughout its growth, and its cultivation has therefore developed in regions that correspond to this characteristic such as, for example, Haute-Normandie, Basse-Normandie, Picardie, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, or the eastern part of the Ile-de-France region.
Normandy accounts for more than 60% of the French area under fibre flax, with Haute-Normandie accounting for a very large proportion of this percentage.
A clos-masure
The Vitrine du Lin is installed in a "clos-masure", an unusual location found in Normandy, and more particularly in the Pays de Caux.
In the centre, you have a meadow planted with fruit trees. This meadow is surrounded by a slope forming approximately a square, and planted with tall trees. These trees protect the farm, whose scattered buildings are distributed within the square.
The linen showcase
This ensemble devoted to linen includes a permanent exhibition, a shop, and a gîte consisting of an old restored bread oven, all distributed in a typical 17th century clos-masure from the Cauchois.
The exhibition room, dedicated to linen only, is on the first floor of the manor house, and is overflowing with documentation to be consulted on the spot, photos, books, and finished products...
The shop is located on the ground floor and the products, very rigorously selected, are often presented in superb family furniture.
Please note that, by visiting the website of La Vitrine du Lin, you will have the possibility to buy its products online, but, between us, it would be a shame not to appreciate them on the spot, in this authentic Norman atmosphere!
