The treasure of Plouhinec

A frightening and moral legend...

Once upon a time, there was a very nasty cowherd who was always hanging around in the streets of the village of Plouhinec and in the surrounding moors looking for a bad blow...

One Christmas night, this sinister figure was found not far from the cot that had been placed in the church square. And, as everyone knows, on Christmas night, the ox and the donkey are gifted with words... and yes! So they were quietly quoting... and the cowherd was listening.

They would pass on the gossip of the town, especially the legend about the Gueldro alignments, which are in the territory of the town of Plouhinec.

These alignments have a peculiarity: the night after Christmas Eve (you follow?) all these big stones fly away, and go to drink at the river, to then return to their place (you find this unusual? Not at all... in Brittany, it's normal).

However, during their absence, they leave perfectly accessible the holes where they were planted, and at the bottom of which is gold and diamonds in profusion. But, obviously, if you touch them, they throw a tantrum and come back immediately to crush you unless... unless you brandish the magic grass that stops them.

It so happens that that year, on the night after Christmas Eve, a desperate young man engraved a cross on one of the stones he was thinking of making his tombstone, convinced that it was to die of grief since the father of his daughter-in-law preferred to give it to another, very wealthy man.

And the cowherd knew that!

And he also knew where to find the magic grass!

So he went to collect some, then went to the stones, and, approaching the desperate young man, told him that all he had to do was wait a little while for the stones to go and drink, and he would help himself to gold and diamonds with his hands. Protected by the magic grass, he hoped it would be the poor young man who would be crushed by the stones.

And what happened?

The stones flew away, they went to drink, the two men helped themselves, the furious stones came back, they rushed at the young man, but, as he had just grazed a cross on one of them, they considered that they could not crush such a good Christian, and turned back to the cowherd, in spite of his magic grass! And splach!

Moral, the desperate young man was no longer desperate at all, since he had collected the fortune that would enable him to marry his beautiful wife in a just marriage, and the ugly cowherd had been punished for his dark designs!

Now, all this having been said, is Plouhinec's true treasure really hidden under these standing stones?

The treasures of Plouhinec

In fact, the real treasures of Plouhinec are not those that are still hidden under the stones of the Gueldro alignments, which, moreover, are not the only ones in the town, where the menhir known as "du bourg", the Kerdaniel menhir, or the four Men-Roquil menhirs, for example, are to be found. All this is obviously not unusual in Brittany, of course!

In fact, the real treasures of Plouhinec, you will start to discover them by going to stroll on the small ports, the port of Magrouër, or the port of Etel.

From the pontoon, wave to the ferry captain and embark for the crossing of the Ria. And, from there, without a car, discover in the wind and the rushes the great site of the wild dunes, classified Grand site de France, immense landscapes, preserved nature, which can take you as far as Quiberon!

You can also discover the "old passage", a tiny port with typical houses reflected in the water.

You will also be interested in the barre d'Etel, an underwater sandbank formed by the currents, and which is constantly moving, its permanent location making the signals emitted by the semaphore of Plouhinec, the last civil semaphore in France, indispensable.

You will be able to invite yourself to the villa of Mane Vechen, and discover the daily life of the inhabitants of this Gallo-Roman villa built towards the end of the second century AD.

Alone in the middle of the 400 m² of the Ile du Nohic, you will be able to imagine the life of the caretaker in charge of the maintenance of the oyster parks of the surroundings, and living in the only house in Lille, built in 1893...

In short, as you will have understood, gold and diamonds are the riches of the imagination, of strolling, of the sweetness of life that you will meet in this little corner of preserved nature... and the unusualness of the place undoubtedly lies in this exceptional preservation...
