In the very place of Julien Sorel
In this little school of the 1900's, you enter the classroom, and you will sit at a very precise place, the same one that Alain-Fournier occupied when he was a kid. And later, writing the Grand Meaulnes, he will make his unforgettable character, Julien Sorel, sit in this same seat and look out the window, as he did himself, at Florentin's farm, "la petite goutte", which he will rename "la belle étoile". Close your eyes... you are Julien Sorel!
The school
This is the authentic heritage of a 1900 school.
It was in October 1891 that everything began, with the appointment of a new director who arrived with his family: Mr. Fournier. Henri Alban, then, was five years old... and, a little more than a century later, in 1994, the Grand Meaulnes school museum was inaugurated.
Today, as it is rightly noted on the village's website, "going through the gate of the school museum is like opening the novel on the first page".
And you will also go through other pages, visiting the village, with many buildings and places that serve as a setting for certain scenes of the novel.
