The Thiaulins of Lignières
At the beginning, it's a farmer's son who became a teacher, who wants to safeguard the popular culture, to keep alive the memory. And here is born the group of Thiaulins de Lignières, today one of the "old groups" of Berry, traditional Berrichonne music, song...
And, around the music, one collects, one gathers, the costumes, the furniture, the tools, the musical instruments...
The castle of Plaix, and the Museum of Arts and Country Traditions
In 1961, they were offered a castle!
Of course, there is work to be done, but, from that time on, it opens its doors to the Berrichons as well as to "foreigners", becoming a "house of local culture", before becoming the Museum of Arts and Country Traditions.
And here is presented the result of more than 70 years of collecting, an immense documentary fund gathered by the Thiaulins, who also use it to set up thematic exhibitions, and to spread this culture with the means available today, booklets, DVD...
A place of life and celebration!
Don't think that this is a museum where the past falls asleep! Here, on the contrary, the past feeds the present, and the arts and popular traditions are also the occasion of joyful and very interesting exhibitions, parties, assemblies, good food and music!
The annual meeting is "a ball, open-air cooking and eating under the branches, peasant games, storytellers, tréteaux theater and traditional dances on the thatch".
In connection with this annual meeting, you also have "Écoutez voir", a festival of lectures and illustrated talks.
And then, to go further, you can take part, in fine weather, in the "singing, dancing and music course", singing, dancing, bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy, fiddle, drumming are taught, with, of course, some gourmet breaks!
