La Roche aux Fées, the dolmen with legends

The fairies....

About 4000 years ago (about 4000 years ago!), there were fairies, everyone knows that. But the men who, unfortunately, often only believe what they see, were a little sceptical about the reality of their existence.

So, obviously, they got a little offended!

And, to prove their existence once and for all, they built, in one night, this dolmen that weighs more than 900 tons! No, but...!

They didn't know it yet, but later, much later, we were going to say that they had built the biggest dolmen in France there!

The dolmen

That said, if the fairies had nothing to do with it, then we could consider that the men of the time were particularly muscular! Judge for yourself...

At 19.50 metres long, 6 metres wide and 4 metres high, the dolmen is particularly impressive, made up of blocks of stone, some of which weigh more than 40 tonnes. Forty-one blocks form a covered driveway, with several rooms whose use is unknown.

Impressive again: the blocks in question were transported over more than 4 kilometres, and those forming the entrance were cut and polished!

On December 21, the shortest day of the year, the sun is very precisely in line with the dolmen.

For lovers....

Are you in love? Then do the following test... each of you goes around the dolmen in a different direction from the other, counting the stones. If, by crossing each other, each one has counted the same number of stones, the union will be long and happy!
