An unusual article
The articles of the "Great Unusual West" are intended to present you with unusual places, activities, unusual, out of the ordinary, remarkable in one or other of their aspects.
This is why this article is unusual, since it does not lead to any site.
It does not lead to any site in the physical, geographical sense of the term.
On the other hand, it leads straight to a site as we understand it on the Internet.
And this site allows you to see sites, seen from the sky, but also seen from yesterday.....
Unusual, isn't it?
Seen from the sky? Not very unusual!
Indeed, it is quite easy to find aerial views of a particular city.
But what is interesting about the Loire-Atlantique department's initiative is that the site it created provides views of the sky, but also views from yesterday.
Indeed it allows to compare, for Saint-Nazaire, for example, an aerial photo of today, so precise that we can see very clearly the gravel at the end of the Saint-Nazaire bridge, next to another photo taken in 2012, in 2009... in 1949... then with maps, the 1917 cadastre, maps from 1850, or even the Napoleonic cadastre!
Amazing... isn't it?
From Saint-Nazaire to the entire Loire-Atlantique department, from site to site
Saint-Nazaire, in our article, was only there as an example. In fact, you can fly over the whole Loire-Atlantique department.
And, icing on the cake, this site (Internet) doesn't just show its photos and maps. No, in addition, it indicates sites (places). From time to time, on a picture, you will see a small blue bubble, and, by pointing your mouse over it, you will see the name of something remarkable appear. And, who knows, it may be an unusual site!
