Yes, at the Automaton Museum, it moves... it moves in space, but it also moves in time... Double unusually!
At all times, automatons....
Automatons are an old story! Already, during the time of the Pharaohs, statues were made of which it was possible to manipulate certain parts, discreetly, with the priests hoping to develop religious beliefs in this way.
And in Greco-Roman times, it was real advances in physics that made it possible for some automatons to operate.
In the 16th century, the great cathedrals, Strasbourg, Dijon, Venice, for example, had very large animated clocks.
It was in the 19th century that technological progress helped to bring about the considerable development of automatons, which became very sophisticated toys for children from very wealthy families.
And then electricity gradually conquered Paris, and the department stores began to compete in ingenuity to attract the barge. And for years, the month of December saw a multitude of children marching past huge animated windows.
It is this time, and this atmosphere, that the Automaton Museum has reconstructed!
Paris to Falaise!
For decades, in Paris, it became difficult to walk along the windows of department stores, along which there was even a small path supposed to allow a better "flow" of children babbling enthusiastic comments, and rolling their eyes wide open!
By choosing the period 1920 to 1950, it is these magical moments that the museum brings to life in Falaise. And it is in the reconstructed streets of Paris of the time that the windows, with their extraordinary staging, present more than 300 automatons!
A magical moment for children... as for their parents!
