Floral farm, from field to bouquet... normal, or unusual ?

At first glance, it might seem normal for flowers to be grown in the fields, then gathered in bouquets to be sold at the local florist... but no! On the contrary, it's extremely unusual (although it shouldn't be, of course!).

So, let's take a plane, before going, more simply, to pick Breton flowers from a flower farm...

The traveling rose...

Just an example... Valentine's Day is in February. Do you know a lot of roses that bloom in February in France? No... so, quite simply, it means that they come from elsewhere, and from far away!

Many of them come from the Netherlands. This country not only produces them, but also imports them from South America, Ethiopia, Kenya, for example... in short, a catastrophic carbon footprint, and flowers that, in order to grow at a glance and travel without too much damage, are happily treated with all sorts of products... some of which, for some, are even forbidden in France!

Faced with this state of affairs, a certain number of people have begun to say to themselves "but, by the way, if I produced here, what grows here, to sell it here... it might be a good idea! ». This is a bit of the basis for thinking that led to the emergence of a movement called the Slow Flower. (A video to learn more about the Slow Flower)

Breton flowers

This is Emelyne Declerk's approach to horticulture at her flower farm in Lescinquit. Seasonal cut flowers, and, logically, Breton flowers since we are in Finistère.

And she sells them in short circuits, in her region, or for local events. She explains all this in her site which it is interesting to go and see, if only to talk about it, and give a little help to her approach!

While you are there...

The village of Plouigneau is definitely very lucky, since, in addition to this flower farm, it also presents, not far away, the ecomuseum called "the Breton village", which will plunge you into rural life... it appears in the article of the Grand Ouest Insolite devoted to the ecomuseums of Finistère.
