The Press Center
This is a unique place in France, which holds more than 6000 newspaper titles for more than one million copies. The Center also preserves very rare documents such as, for example, a copy of the Aurore of January 18, 1898, with, on the front page, the famous "J'accuse" of Zola.
Its activities are multiple: recovery of old magazines and newspapers, classification and research work, realization of exhibitions, discovery classes, guided tours...
Very interesting acquisitions...
Some recent acquisitions give an idea of the richness of the collection created by the Center. One finds, for example, the Figaro of March 3, 1831 in which a certain Aurore Dupin, better known, then, under the name of George Sand, published her first text... Libération, clandestine, of April 5, 1942... Marat's newspaper, the Ami du Peuple, of December 23, 1789... The illustration, a copy of 1885, representing Pasteur carrying out the first vaccination... The Excelsior, which, in 1911, relates the examination, by the Academy of Sciences, of the candidature of Madame Curie... etc. etc.
"From the gazette to the tablet
During your visit, you can take an interest in a permanent exhibition on the history of the press entitled "From the gazette to the tablet". It is a commented tour, which will also allow you to see part of the gigantic collections that are gathered.
